Richmond Hill Georgia

Welcome to Richmond Hill Georgia

Richmond Hill GeorgiaSituated along Georgia’s colonial coast is the city of Richmond Hill.  Just 20 miles from Savannah, Richmond Hill’s adventurous roots run deep. Once home to Fort Argyle, a British colonial outpost established in 1733, the community still serves as a gateway to much of the south.

Seen as a charming alternative to the congestion and taxes levied in nearby Chatham County, this city of 11,300+/- people offers residents a glimpse into the Old South, ample hiking and biking paths, breath taking scenery and a thriving small business community with very tempting property values.

Richmond Hill benefitted from real growth in the 1990’s that led to the construction of a new civic center, city hall and police station all of which are situated in J.F. Gregory Park.  Perhaps that community focus is responsible for the lower than average crime rates in the area.

Richmond Hill, Georgia is an exciting family  oriented community. Whether you attend the annual "Great Ogeechee Seafood Festival" in October or visit the Ford Farms (now redeveloped as a luxury resort with vacation cottages, a clubhouse, and sports) built on the site of Richmond Plantation, you can find plenty to do in the area.

In addition to the "Great Ogeechee Seafood Festival," J.F. Gregory Park hosts a number of other community events such as the National Night out (August), the Easter Extravaganza (varies by the year), a Memorial Day observance (May), an old Time 4th of July Festival with fireworks, a pumpkin patch(October), and a Chili Cook off (December).

After attending all the Richmond Hill community events, you’ll surely have worked up an appetite, and Richmond Hill can offer some great dining choices. Whether you want Japanese (Shogun or Fuju), an authentic pub experience (Molly MacPherson's  authentic Scottish pub) or just a refreshing ice cream cone (Gub-Gub's Ice Cream & Coffee Club), you’ll find great food in Richmond Hill.

Richmond Hill boasts five public schools each named for the city, one primary school, one elementary school, an upper elementary school, a middle school and one high school.  A new middle school is planned in the near future with other expansion possible due to the rapid growth in the area.

Richmond Hill is small business friendly, with 93 percent of employment coming from small business (under 20 employees).  Unemployment remains below the national average at 8.3 percent.

As the saying goes, Richmond Hill is “Just South of Savannah...but a world away.”
